I’m currently working on my upcoming book, A Woman MP?: From Parliamentary Candidates to Westminster Representatives, 1918-1939 which will be published by Routledge.
At just 27 words long, the 1918 Parliament (Qualification of Women) Act revolutionised Westminster, enabling women over the age of 21 to stand for parliament. A Woman MP? tells the story of what happened next. It offers the first in-depth exploration into the parliamentary election campaigns of women candidates, combined with their experiences in parliament during the interwar period.
Told through the stories of seven trailblazing women who stood across the political spectrum, A Woman MP? draws on rarely seen archival material and contextualises these individuals within the broader narrative of women’s parliamentary experiences.
